Financial translation

Financial translation for annual reports and accounts, financial statements, audit, banking, insurance, capital markets and corporate transactions.

Financial translation for companies and specialised documentation

Financial translation combines linguistic accuracy with accounting, banking, corporate and reporting terminology. In annual accounts, audit, insurance or financing documents, consistency across periods, line items, figures, references and defined terms is essential.

I have experience translating annual reports, audited accounts, financial statements, banking documents, insurance, capital-markets materials and corporate transactions. I handle the translation and final checking personally.

Accounting, annual reports and financial statements

  • Annual reports and annual accounts
  • Management reports and board/shareholder information
  • Balance sheets and statements of financial position
  • Income statements and cash-flow statements
  • Statements of changes in equity
  • Notes to the financial statements, schedules and accounting tables

The translation reproduces the source information; it does not alter or interpret financial data.

Audit reports and audited accounts

I translate audit reports, audited annual accounts and related auditors' documentation. These texts combine financial terminology with legal and corporate formulations, so the relationship between opinion, scope, responsibilities, applicable standards and the underlying financial statements must remain clear.

Banking, credit and finance

My experience also includes banking and financing documentation, such as credit and loan materials, financial information, transaction instructions and documents combining contractual and financial language.

Where a document is predominantly contractual or legal, the project may also fall within my legal translation practice.

Capital markets, investment and debt

I work with documentation connected with investment and market transactions, including, where appropriate, subscription agreements, underwriting agreements, pricing agreements, debt issuance/subscription and investor documentation. These projects often combine finance and contractual obligations in the same document set.

I have also translated two published non-fiction books from English into European Portuguese in the fields of blockchain, cryptocurrency and investment.

Insurance translation

I have experience with insurance and financial-product documentation, including general and special terms, coverage, exclusions, pre-contractual information and materials for life, health, mortgage/credit, construction, workplace accident and multi-risk products.

Corporate transactions and M&A

Financial translation frequently overlaps with corporate law in acquisitions, share sales, investment transactions and transaction documentation. I have worked with document sets combining financial information, contracts, warranties, accounts, financing and corporate materials.

Corporate reporting, sustainability and ESG

Management reports, shareholder communications, corporate presentations and sustainability/ESG reporting may combine financial, institutional and corporate language. Consistency across KPIs, periods, reporting terminology and group-specific wording is important in recurring publications.

Working languages

My principal financial translation flows are English and Spanish into European Portuguese. Depending on the project, I also work from French, Italian and German into Portuguese, and from Portuguese into English or Spanish and Spanish into English.

Previous annual reports, glossaries, charts of accounts and approved translations are particularly useful for maintaining consistency across reporting periods.

Figures, currencies, dates and terminology

Financial checking extends beyond running text. Tables, line items, percentages, periods, currencies, units and notes are checked carefully so that figures remain associated with the correct headings and explanatory text.

Formatting and files

Financial reports often contain extensive tables, charts, notes, headers and cross-references. Where the source format permits, I preserve the structure needed for clear reading. Significant graphic reconstruction is assessed before the project is accepted.

Confidentiality

Non-public financial information, internal reports and corporate documentation are treated as confidential. Quotation, translation and checking are handled directly by me under the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Price and turnaround

Price and turnaround depend on language pair, length, terminology density, tables, file format, legibility, reference material and urgency. For large reports or transaction document sets, I review the overall volume before confirming the quote.

When is certification required?

Financial documents used internally do not normally need certification. Where a document is submitted to an authority or institution that requires formal certification, see certified translations in Portugal.

How it works

  1. Send the files: include the language pair, intended use, deadline and financial or corporate context.
  2. Reference material: send previous reports, glossaries, charts of accounts or approved terminology where available.
  3. Quote: I confirm scope, price, turnaround and formatting requirements before work begins.
  4. Translation and checking: I check terminology, line items, figures, dates, references and consistency before delivery.
